“It all started when I went to my regular medical doctor for an annual physical and my cholesterol was off the charts,” recalls Marilyn Mittan. “After doing the tests, the doctor said, It’s going to be hard to bring your cholesterol down unless you lose weight.” Unfortunately, Marilyn’s physician didn’t offer any solutions for weight loss. “I knew I was basically going down the road of drug therapy,” she explains, “but I didn’t want that.” Marilyn shares that her struggles with weight gain go back a couple of decades.  “I worked as a flight attendant for Eastern Air Lines for twenty years and we had weight checks in those days,” she reports. “If you were five pounds overweight, you were grounded. So I basically had a weight program in place, because I would lose my job if I didn’t stay within five pounds of my ideal weight! I tried almost every diet out there to keep my weight down.” After the airline filed for bankruptcy, Marilyn found it harder to keep the weight off. “Eastern went out of business in 1991 and I started putting on some weight gradually over the years,” she says. “By 2013, it became a problem.” Marilyn began to research on her own, and found an impressive solution when she went to her new chiropractor, Dr. Jeremy Gordon. “I went to Dr. Gordon first as a chiropractor, and in the course of having chiropractic treatment, we discussed my weight and my cholesterol,” remembers Marilyn. “We talked about how if my weight comes down, the cholesterol will come down. Customized plan

Unfortunately, obesity is a major problem in this country right now as a result. “Ideal Protein helps limit the amount of sugars and dietary fats coming in while providing a high-quality form of protein that is easily absorbed. Whereas some plans merely restrict caloric intake so that the body will burn fat, it will also burn some muscle. People lose muscle mass when they’re on a lot of these diets. The Ideal Protein program, on the other hand, is focused on helping people lose weight by burning fat while preserving lean muscle.” Even better, the plan is not simply a substitute for normal food; it actually transitions patients from less healthy eating to healthier eating. “There are four supplements that go along with the actual foods that they’re eating: a multivitamin, a potassium supplement, a fish oil and a calcium formula,” continues Dr. Gordon. “People are replacing their breakfast and their lunch with an Ideal Protein food, and then they eat a normal dinner which focuses on a lean meat, two servings of vegetables and unlimited salad. “We have to supplement because we are removing most of the dairy, grains and fruits from their regular diet while they’re on the Ideal Protein plan,” he clarifies. “Those three food groups have a lot of mineral content, so we need to make sure patients still get an adequate, balanced amount of minerals. Consequently, we avoid things like muscle cramps or spasms and things of that nature. “None of the  supplements is like what you see with the different fad diets. There is nothing like that as part of it. This plan is focused on the body’s biochemistry and burning stored fat through eating properly and through proper nutrition. Ideal Protein teaches patients to eat healthy.”

Achieving her goal

Marilyn contrasts Ideal Protein favorably with other plans that she tried when she was working for the airline. “The other ones were almost shams, just very bad for your body,” she confides. “I would lose five or ten pounds but then put it right back on. It didn’t matter at the time: I had to get that five or ten pounds off quickly. And I was a lot younger then, but as you age you just can’t do that to your body. “The Ideal Protein is a very, very healthy diet, and that’s what I liked about it. I would have two cups of vegetables for lunch, two cups of vegetables for dinner and whatever protein I want with my dinner to go along with it.” Today, Marilyn is thrilled with how far she has come, and says her ultimate goal is within sight. “It took four months for me to get my weight down, and I’m achieving my weight loss this week! I’ve gotten my life back, and I have Dr. Gordon and his staff to thank for that.”

“I’ve been overweight since my second child was born, and he’s sixteen now,” confides Kathy Sievert.
